How to Play

In Animal Typing, you manage a virtual zoo where animals get hungry. Each hungry animal shows its name above its enclosure. Type the animal's name correctly and press Enter to feed it - watch the animal do a happy dance and earn a food pellet. Let too many animals go hungry (three missed feedings) and the game ends.

Words start with short names (CAT, DOG, FOX) and progress to longer ones (ELEPHANT, PENGUIN, ALLIGATOR) as your zoo grows. Completing a level unlocks a new zoo habitat: Farmyard, Jungle, Arctic, Ocean, Desert, and Rainforest - each with a new set of animals and corresponding vocabulary. A "Fun Fact" pop-up appears when you successfully feed each new animal species for the first time.

What Kids Learn

Animal Typing blends typing practice with natural world vocabulary in a way that feels like exploration rather than drill. Young children who love animals - a very common enthusiasm - will willingly type challenging words like HIPPOPOTAMUS or RHINOCEROS just to feed their favorite creatures and unlock new habitats. This intrinsic motivation makes the learning stick.

The structured vocabulary progression (short, common animal names advancing to long, less common ones) mirrors how spelling curricula build difficulty. Typing a word correctly requires processing each letter in sequence, reinforcing spelling simultaneously with keyboard skills. The fun fact feature adds a science learning layer, building general knowledge about the animal world that supports curriculum topics in biology and environmental studies.

Tips for Parents

Before and after playing, look up pictures and short videos of the animals together - this enriches the learning and deepens the sense of exploration. Let your child hear the correct pronunciation of unfamiliar animal names, since they'll encounter them in reading and conversation. If your child is typing with just two fingers, gently introduce the concept of "home row" (ASDF for the left hand, JKL; for the right) as a game in itself. Animal Typing's gradual word-length progression makes it an ideal first "real word" typing game for children graduating from Letter Rain.
