How to Play
Word cards appear one at a time on screen. Tap the correct category bucket - Nouns, Verbs, or Adjectives - to sort each word. A noun is a person, place, or thing (dog, house). A verb is an action or doing word (run, eat). An adjective describes something (big, happy).
The game uses 24 words spread across three categories. Words are presented one at a time with emoji illustrations to help younger players. Correct sorts animate the card swooping into the bucket. Wrong sorts trigger a gentle correction. Score is based on correct first-attempt sorts.
What Kids Learn
Understanding the three core word classes - nouns, verbs, and adjectives - gives children the grammatical vocabulary to talk about language, which in turn helps them understand grammar lessons and improve their own writing. A child who knows what an adjective is can act on feedback like "add more adjectives to make your writing more descriptive."
Categorisation is also a fundamental cognitive skill in its own right. Sorting activities train children to look for defining characteristics and apply consistent rules, a logical thinking skill that transfers to science (classifying animals), maths (sorting shapes), and everyday decision-making.
Tips for Parents
Make word-sorting a game in conversation too. Point to an object and ask "is that a noun, verb, or adjective?" or make up silly sentences where all the nouns have been replaced with the word "bloop" and challenge your child to identify where the real nouns should go. Younger children often enjoy starting with just two categories (nouns vs verbs) before adding adjectives.
