How to Play

Space Memory sends players on a cosmic matching mission. Cards display stunning illustrations of planets, moons, stars, constellations, nebulae, galaxies, and space vehicles from both our solar system and beyond. Match pairs to "collect" each celestial object and learn a fascinating fact about it when the pair is revealed.

The game is organized into mission levels: Mission 1 covers the eight planets and their names; Mission 2 adds our moon, the sun, and notable moons of other planets; Mission 3 introduces famous constellations; and Mission 4 covers space vehicles, telescopes, and space stations. Each mission uses a 4×4 grid (8 pairs). A "Galaxy Map" shows all missions completed, and collecting all objects in a mission earns an Explorer Badge.

What Kids Learn

Space Memory builds astronomy knowledge alongside memory skills - a pairing that works especially well because space science captivates a huge proportion of children in the 6-10 age range. The planet-name pairs in Mission 1 directly support the science curriculum, where the solar system and planet order are standard topics. The mission progression takes children progressively deeper into astronomy, building a rich mental model of the universe.

The memory format specifically benefits content learning here: because children must recall the visual identity of each card (what does Mars look like? what are the colors of Jupiter?), they develop detailed, accurate visual representations of astronomical objects. This visual anchoring makes subsequent text or video learning about space far more comprehensible and memorable.

Tips for Parents

Star gazing is the natural complement to Space Memory. On a clear night, point out the moon, visible planets (Venus and Jupiter are often bright enough to see easily), and simple constellations like Orion or the Big Dipper. Connecting the game's images to real objects in the sky is an enormously powerful learning experience. NASA's website has stunning, free images of all solar system objects - browse them together to see the real versions of the game's illustrated cards. Consider downloading a free stargazing app for your phone and use it on your next clear night out.
