How to Play
Number Order presents a set of scrambled numbers and asks the player to arrange them in order from smallest to largest (or largest to smallest). Drag and drop the number tiles into the correct sequence and tap "Check" to verify. Correct arrangements earn stars; if any numbers are out of order, arrows indicate which tiles need to move.
Level 1 covers numbers 1-10 (arrange sets of 5), Level 2 covers 1-20 (arrange sets of 7), Level 3 covers 1-100 (arrange sets of 8 from various ranges), and Level 4 introduces negative numbers and decimals for the oldest players in the range. A visual number line appears after each correct answer, showing where each number lives on the line - connecting the abstract ordering task to the geometric structure of the number line.
What Kids Learn
Understanding number order is prerequisite to understanding number comparison, arithmetic, and the number line - all foundational mathematical concepts. A child who has thoroughly internalized the order of numbers 1-20 can quickly answer questions like "Is 13 bigger than 8?" or "What number comes between 14 and 16?" without counting from 1 each time. This ordinal knowledge is distinct from cardinal knowledge (knowing what 7 means as a quantity) and both are essential.
The number line visualization connects ordinal knowledge to a geometric model that will be used throughout school mathematics - for integers, fractions, decimals, and eventually functions. Early familiarity with the number line as a structured space where numbers live in fixed positions builds strong intuitions for addition and subtraction as movement along the line, and for comparison as position (larger numbers are to the right).
Tips for Parents
A physical number line posted in your child's room or study area is an invaluable reference tool. Let your child help create it - writing or printing numbers and spacing them correctly on a long strip of paper. Refer to it when questions about number order or comparison arise: "Let's look at the number line - where is 8 and where is 13? Which one is further along?" Board games involving number tracks (like Snakes and Ladders or Ludo) naturally develop number order intuition through engaging play - these classic games are a wonderful low-tech complement to digital learning.
