How to Play

Each round, a sequence of colourful number bubbles appears on screen. You have two seconds to memorise the digits before they disappear. A 3-2-1 countdown helps you prepare. Once the numbers vanish, use the large on-screen number pad to type the sequence exactly as it appeared.

The game starts with a 3-digit sequence. Get it right and the next round adds one more digit. Get it wrong and you lose a life - you still see the correct sequence briefly so you can learn from it. The game ends when you run out of lives. Try to beat your longest sequence!

What Kids Learn

Working memory - the ability to hold information in mind while using it - is one of the strongest predictors of academic success in maths and reading. Number Memory directly trains this skill by asking children to hold a growing string of digits in mind and reproduce it accurately.

The game also helps children practise digit recognition and builds number fluency as an enjoyable side effect. Because the stakes are low and the sequences are short, children are willing to repeat the challenge many times - exactly the spaced repetition that cements working memory improvements.

Tips for Parents

Encourage your child to invent memory tricks, for example grouping digits into pairs or finding patterns in the sequence. These strategies, called chunking and encoding, are the same ones used by memory champions. If your child finds sequences of 5 or more challenging, celebrate the attempt - even slight improvement over multiple sessions represents genuine cognitive growth. Avoid playing immediately before bed as mental stimulation can delay sleep.
