How to Play
Each round focuses on one times table. Four multiplication problems appear in a row - for example, 3 x 1 = ?, 3 x 2 = ?, 3 x 3 = ?, 3 x 4 = ?. Tap any blank box to open the number pad and type your answer. Correct answers turn green with a pop animation. Work through all four problems to advance to the next times table.
The game covers the 2 to 11 times tables across 10 rounds. A wrong answer shakes the box and lets you try again. Score is based on how many cells you answer correctly on the first attempt.
What Kids Learn
Times tables are best learned as a system of patterns, not as isolated facts. By presenting a full row of the same times table at once, Multiplication Grid helps children see the regular structure - for instance, that all multiples of 5 end in 0 or 5, or that the digits of multiples of 9 always sum to 9.
The visual grid format also builds the mental model that multiplication is repeated addition, helping children verify their answers and spot errors. Research consistently shows that children who understand the patterns in times tables learn them faster and retain them longer than children who rely on rote memorisation alone.
Tips for Parents
Ask your child to spot patterns after each row - "what do you notice about all the answers in the 5-times table?" Noticing patterns builds metacognitive skills alongside the arithmetic knowledge. Make the tables competitive in a positive way: challenge your child to earn a perfect score (all first attempts correct) on their favourite times table. A times table chart on the wall for reference is fine - the goal is understanding, not elimination of all support.
