How to Play
Two canvases sit side by side separated by a vertical line. Draw on the left canvas using your finger or mouse. Every stroke you make is instantly mirrored on the right canvas with the x-axis flipped - drawing near the centre line on the left appears near the centre line on the right, creating perfect symmetry.
The drawing colour cycles through a rainbow with each stroke, creating vivid, multicoloured symmetrical art. A "Clear" button wipes both canvases so you can start fresh. The game runs indefinitely - there is no end screen. Just keep drawing and exploring! Try drawing a face, a butterfly, or an abstract pattern.
What Kids Learn
Mirror Drawing builds understanding of reflective symmetry - one of the most fundamental concepts in both mathematics and art. By seeing symmetry created in real time, children develop an intuitive feel for how reflection works that is far deeper than any worksheet explanation.
The creative freedom of the game also develops fine motor control, spatial reasoning, and artistic expression. Children who draw regularly develop better hand-eye coordination and stronger visualisation skills. The rainbow colour effect provides immediate, beautiful positive feedback that motivates continued exploration.
Tips for Parents
Ask your child to try to draw a face symmetrically, then compare it to a photograph of their own face and notice what is and is not perfectly symmetrical in real life. Point out examples of symmetry in nature - butterfly wings, leaves, flowers, faces - and in architecture and design. A physical mirror placed next to a drawing to check symmetry is a fun offline extension. For older children, introduce the word "axis of symmetry" and challenge them to find multiple axes in a single drawing.
