How to Play
Flag Quiz shows a country flag and asks you to name the country, or shows a country name and asks you to identify the correct flag from four options. Two modes are available: Name That Country (you see the flag, you identify the country) and Find the Flag (you see a country name, you choose the correct flag from four options displayed together). Both modes contain 20 questions per round.
Quizzes are organized by continent: Europe, Americas, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. Start with easier sets of the most recognizable flags (USA, UK, France, Japan) and unlock harder sets as your flag knowledge grows. A detailed "Flag Details" card appears after each question - right or wrong - explaining the flag's colors, symbols, and their meaning. A world map shows your "flag coverage" as you learn more countries.
What Kids Learn
Flag Quiz builds geographic awareness - knowledge of countries, their locations, and their visual identities - alongside visual pattern recognition and memory. A child who can identify 50 world flags has demonstrated curiosity and engagement with the world at a level that supports geography, social studies, history, and international perspective in general.
The flag-history connection is educationally rich: every flag tells a story about a country's history, culture, and values. Learning that the Canadian maple leaf symbolizes national identity, that the Japanese flag represents the rising sun, or that the South African flag's colors mark reconciliation between formerly divided communities introduces children to the idea that symbols carry meaning - a concept that extends to mathematics, language, and science.
Tips for Parents
When a country comes up in the news, in a book, or in a film, look up its flag together and see if your child knows it from the quiz. Make a "flags I've learned" wall with small printed flags organized by continent - a physical, growing display of their geographic knowledge. If your family has heritage connections to particular countries, start with those flags and the stories behind them; personal connections make learning sticky. Many children who become passionate about flags develop broader geography curiosity - feed it with age-appropriate atlases, globes, and world maps.
