How to Play

Each round, gold stars appear on a dark sky one at a time, each with a cheerful pop animation. A voice says "Count the stars!" at the start. Watch carefully and count each star as it appears. Once all the stars are on screen, three answer buttons appear. Tap the one that shows the correct total.

The game covers numbers from 1 to 10 and lasts 10 rounds. Correct answers earn a star and a spoken confirmation. Wrong answers give gentle encouragement and a second chance. You have three lives.

What Kids Learn

One-to-one correspondence - the understanding that each object in a group is counted exactly once - is the foundation of all early number sense. Counting Stars makes this concrete by presenting objects (stars) one at a time, giving very young children a clear, unambiguous counting experience.

The Web Speech audio reinforces the number names, connecting the spoken word to the written numeral and the actual quantity. Research shows that children who hear numbers spoken aloud while counting learn number names faster. The game also builds subitising - the ability to instantly recognise small quantities - through repeated exposure to the same counts.

Tips for Parents

Point to each star on screen together and count aloud in unison for the first few games. Once your child is confident, let them count independently and check the answer together. Extend the learning by counting real objects around the house - buttons, grapes, stairs - and asking "how many?" before moving on. Very young children (ages 2-3) may need to start with counts of 1-5 only; you can help by covering some stars with your hand.
